Things You Should Know
Proper Use and Care of Your Cane:
Our product is described as a “Standard Walking Cane” or “Assistive Accessory”.
- Our billet aluminum canes are extremely strong and will withstand loads up to 350 pounds.
- However, a standard cane is designed for balance only - not for weight bearing.
- A standard walking cane should support up to 20% of the user’s body weight.
Use of your assistive accessory:
- The device should be held on the opposite side of the deficient leg i.e. weak right leg, hold accessory in left hand and the opposite for weak left leg.
- Move your cane ahead at the same time you advance with your weak leg i.e. weak right leg moves ahead with left arm which is holding cane.
Changing the rubber tip:
The rubber tip should be changed if it is damaged under normal wear and tear or is not providing sufficient traction. Each cane ships with a complimentary replaceable tip. New parts may be ordered from our on-line store.
- Remove the embedded screw in the bottom of the foot and pull off.
- Use a small amount of soap and water to loosen if necessary.
- Reattach the new tip by sliding onto the shaft and tightening the embedded screw again. Ensure screw is tightened as much as possible.
Cleaning:
To clean the fine finish on your aluminum walking cane, use a good quality car wax. Apply a thin coat and polish to a glossy shine. Fine scratches can also be removed with wax.
Caring for your Cane:
- Take extra care in handling your cane – dropping on hard surfaces may result in damage to the finish.
- To lean your cane on a wall, the handle should be placed on the floor and the rubber tip should be placed against the wall – this will decrease the chance of it falling and being damaged.
- Keep away from electrical sources as they are aluminum and may act as a conduit.
- Never leave your cane unattended – due to the unique design and high quality of a Cool Cane, they can be very attractive to the less scrupulous.
